Poor Wanda has had a hard day trying to play soccer with her friends. She’s not very good and can’t even kick the ball straight. Her brother Toby hears her crashing about and comes to find out what's happening.
Because her mother is very ill, Wanda is sent away to the far side of the pond to stay with the fanged Munghan, Berthamungha. Having heard stories about Munghans eating the gentle Dandhans, she is very upset and her fear grows when she finds a chest hidden in the basement. Is it full of bones?
Wanda is annoyed that she is not allowed to have a big sports bag like the one that her brother Toby has for his hockey equipment. Her ranting is interrupted by a deep voice, seemingly coming out of thin air. Quickly, she discovers that it is actually the sports bag who is talking. Is he a "treasure chest with another G,E,M,?
